The entertainment industry has done everything in its power to get conservative funny man Tim Allen to apologize for his traditional views, canceling his hit television series and crucifying him in the media. However, they never expected what Allen’s reply would be.
It’s no secret that proudly proclaiming your support for conservative values or Republican politicians can cost you your career in Hollywood. However, what ABC did in the wake of actor Tim Allen’s support for President Donald Trump going viral was quite shocking.
Allen, who describes himself as a fiscal conservative, infamously spoke out against Hollywood liberals who are notorious for bullying Trump supporters. Unfortunately, he did not walk away unscathed after taking that stance.
ABC confirmed in May 2017 that “Last Man Standing,” which stars Allen as the politically conservative and Christian character Mike Baxter, was being canceled despite showing strong ratings.
Variety reported at the time, “Last Man Standing was ahead of the curve in the cultural sense as Allen played a conservative-minded patriarch who runs a sporting goods store and opines about the modern world, including political topics such as Obamacare and environmental policy.”
It was considered the perfect sitcom for the Trump era, hitting ratings highs in its sixth season. But that didn’t save Last Man Standing from a cancellation today.
ABC has opted not to renew the longtime Friday 8 PM anchor for Season 7 despite the fact that the blue-collar sitcom was ABC’s second most watched comedy this season with 8.1 million viewers in Live +7, only behind flagship Modern Family (8.7 million). It was the third most watched ABC scripted series overall behind Grey’s Anatomy and Modern Family. [Source: Deadline]
Appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last year, Allen seemed to foreshadow his own demise, saying, “I’m not kidding. You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes.”
He continued, “This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, ‘You know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘Well, I might have a problem with that.’ I’m a comedian, I like going [off] on both sides.”
Fans of Tim Allen’s show were quick to express their contempt over the cancellation of “Last Man Standing,” and likewise, they were ecstatic when FOX announced that it was bringing the hilarious sitcom back to television.
According to IJR, in his latest interview, Tim Allen explained that he doesn’t care if the conservative character he plays offends anyone. In fact, he enjoys ruffling the feathers of those in Hollywood. “I’ve always said that, certainly, relationships are politics. The political discourse between a male and female energy is politics,” said Allen.
“And children, that’s all political stuff. I like to mess around because I’ve been a standup fiery comic for 30 years. And I like pissing people off, and I said there’s nothing, especially in this area, that pisses people off more than a very funny conservative. A smart, funny conservative that takes shots and is certainly self-effacing.”
“The left-wing point of view is so pervasive that they don’t even realize it’s a point of view,” Allen added. “It is just a point of view. I think this character likes that, he likes to have another point of view. It makes him sharper and more interesting. But we don’t push it. I don’t think we’ve mentioned pro or con Trump once now.”
It certainly nice to see an entertainer who isn’t intent on indoctrinating their audiences in the progressive agenda. Tim Allen has been put through the wringer because of his views and his values, but he’s never caved to liberals who want him to apologize for being a staunch Republican.
